The Best Sci-Fi Audiobooks

Are you looking for the best Science Fiction audiobooks? I’ve listened to hundreds of audiobooks during my lifetime, and a large percentage of them have been sci-fi audiobooks. I’ll be sharing the best science fiction books I’ve listened to in this article.

I reviewed all the sci-fi titles I’ve listened to looking for the ones I enjoyed the most. This list contains titles I felt were enhanced by listening to an audiobook. They have good narration which helps the story come to life.

Sci-fi has been around for over a hundred years, and I’ve read books from most of the different eras. Below I’ve tried to include science fiction books from different eras as well.

Here are my favorite Science Fiction books I’ve listened to on Audible.

Dune by Frank Herbert

The Dune audiobook on Audible is a full-on production. It has nearly a dozen narrators who provide the voices for this science fiction classic. The production includes music and sound effects as well. Dune is possibly the greatest science fiction novel of all time, and the story translates nicely to audio.

Star Wars Thrawn Series by Timothy Zahn

Before reading Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn series I was only a casual Star Wars fan. But these books have added a layer to the Star Wars story which is irresistible. Thrawn is the perfect Stars Wars villain. He is intelligent and cunning unlike most of the Star Wars “bad guys”. The original Thrawn books (there are almost a dozen books now) continue after The Return of the Jedi movie. Start with the book Heir to the Empire.

The series is narrated by Marc Thompson, who provided a perfect and distinctive voice for Thrawn. I can still hear Thrawn’s voice clearly even years after listening to the series.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown

This newer Sci-fi series is narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds. Red Rising is fun. I will say that I do enjoy the second and third books more than the first ones.

Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling

Okay, I know Harry Potter is a fantasy novel, but I think it fits on this list. It’s an exceptional audiobook product. Jim Dale is one of the most respected narrators out there.

The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North

The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North is a fun science fiction time-travel book with great narration. If you are looking for a unique story check this one out.

Enders Game by Orson Scott Card

One of the classics of science fiction, Enders Game, is one of the best sci-fi books to listen to. I read a physical copy of the book before I listened to the audiobook, and I think I prefer listening to Enders Games. I also really enjoyed listening to the second book in the series Speaker For The Dead.

The City and the Stars by Arthur C. Clarke

Most of the science fiction I’ve read has been from the big three sci-fi authors; Issac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, and Robert A. Heinlein. Somehow The City and the Stars escaped my attention. It is one of Arthur C. Clarke’s best books. The audiobook is great, and the book is a short listen.

Hopefully, one of these books will be your next Audible listen!
